THE CHALLENGE

The Task

What were we trying to solve?

For our Fluid Dynamics (ME310) course at the University of Illinois, at Urbana Champaign, our team was given the challenge of building a glider as a part of Mini Project 2. The glider had to glide down the monumental steps of the Campus Instructional Facility at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. The target diameter to land in was 1 m. The glider had to traverse approximately 21 m (70 feet) horizontally and go 8.22 m (27 feet) down to hit the target. We were provided with two sheets of A2-size paper and were allowed to use any scrap or recycled materials.
